The Towpath Cafe is a beautiful outdoor space with a menu of simple and delicious fares. It's perfect for a brief stop while you stroll along London's iconic canal.
Sitting outside, eating breakfast and watching people stroll along the canal is one of the most enjoyable ways to start a weekend in London. Especially now that the weather is warming up, The Towpath Cafe is on my list of top morning destinations. The Towpath Cafe sits along Regent's Canal, near De Beauvoir Town, between Angel and Kingsland Road. It overlooks a beautiful stretch of the water, with a simple brick bridge at the end of it.
When the sun is out, I'd suggest that you sit at one of the tables outside along the path where people-watching can provide hours of mindless entertainment. But even without the sunshine, you can tuck yourself into one of the shallow units, where rustic mismatched tables, benches and chairs give it a cottage-like feel.
Or if it gets too boring watching families walking with prams and children, joggers with headphones, and cyclists trying to dodge the foot traffic, it also wouldn't be hard to spend several hours just drinking coffee, relaxing and catching up with friends over a nice simple breakfast.
The menu is simple, but there was definitely enough choice that I didn't have a hard time choosing my breakfast. We ordered the granola and yogurt with a mix of berries, and the grilled cheese sandwich. Both were delicious and as expected - nothing fancy or frilly, just absolutely spot on.
The Towpath Cafe is closed during the winter months, but seeing how spring has just started, you have plenty of time to make your way over there again and again in the next several months! Maybe I'll catch you there next time?
