Tina, We Salute You sits on a quaint road in east London and is a friendly neighborhood cafe with exceptional coffee and delicious food. It's off the beaten path if you're visiting London as a tourist, but if you're looking for something local, it's a top spot to sit for a morning coffee and breakfast.
The large windows of this corner cafe allow plenty of sunshine to pour in from both directions. There are also two tables on the sidewalk, where I happened to catch a French Bulldog lazing out in the sun. He definitely had the right idea.
Inside, the space is filled with plenty of tables and chairs, a communal bar table, and a little sofa seat. But the real draw are the walls which act as a canvas for local artists, and it's kept fresh as they white-wash and work their magic every eight weeks or so.
Every menu item sounded like a winner. Lighter options include porridge and yogurt with compote. Heartier dishes include American style pancakes, bacon and cheddar butty (a British "sandwich"), meatloaf and fried egg, and hot chorizo. For something in between, you could settle for a slice of toast or a beigel with less-traditional toppings such as avocado and chili, poached eggs, baked beans, and mushrooms.
I ended up with a latte and a rustic sourdough slice with a cream cheese spread, sprinkled with cinnamon and drizzled with honey. It was honest simple cooking and there was nothing pretentious about it. I loved it, so much so that I've started making it at home. But just because I can make it at home doesn't mean that I won't be stopping by Tina, We Salute You again soon! And how can I say no to a cafe that has my name in it?

This is totally my kind of brunch place! Love the relaxed vibe, and, as you mentioned, the unpretentiousness. How cool is their name? If I were you, I'd become a daily patron. ;)
