I've had the pleasure to work with Rude Health over the past few weeks. Today, Camilla Barnard, co-founder of Rude Health, shares a bit about mornings on her worktop. Rude Health is a London-based company that produces a delicious range of real and honest food with nothing artificial or refined. You might have seen some Rude Health products on The Worktop - sprouted whole buckwheat flour, almond drink, spelt flakes, puffed brown rice, and puffed oats. I am addicted to their products and can rave and create recipes using them all day.
I'm thrilled to introduce you to Camilla Barnard this morning. I love a women entrepreneur, especially one that has been called the breakfast queen. To make it even more exciting, Camilla often eats two breakfasts a day, and gets the 11 AM snack attacks (she likes to snack on nuts and banana cake, while I love coconut chips)!
Good Morning Camilla! What are mornings on your worktop like?
Do you eat breakfast every morning?
Yes, absolutely without fail, often more than one. A mug of hot water first, then a bowl of sprouted porridge and a small green juice at about 7am. Then toast or yoghurt, and a coffee at 9am.
You’re in rude health when… you eat breakfast, and then you eat another breakfast.
Do you eat breakfast before or after you brush your teeth?
Before. I hate coffee teeth.
How do you take your coffee?
I grind Square Mile beans for a drip filter and add hot milk. And I have a favourite mug.
Eggs: how do you like them prepared?
Not at all first thing in the morning; the earliest I want eggs is brunch, then I like them rancheros, or any kind of spicy.
What do you put on your porridge?
All sorts but my desert island porridge is with banana, maple syrup, activated pecans and Hurdlebrook double cream.
Toast: buttered or not?
Very buttered and melty.
What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Oats, many ways. As it gets warmer I’ll switch from porridge to muesli and granola. There’s a bircher muesli soaked in kombucha recipe that I want to make soon.
You might also be interested to know that Camilla is married to the former World Porridge Champion. I did forget to ask her though, who makes the porridge at home? We'll have to save that for next time.
